PART ELEVEN: Independence Day !

This year, 2011, Israel Independence Day is Tuesday, May 10.

Like July 4th in the old country, it's a National Holiday.

 Offices are closed.

 Many stores are closed.

Municipal services and banks are closed.

Most schools are closed.

But unlike the old country, the air of public festivity and celebration is everywhere:

 most museums are have free entry;

 army and air bases are open to the public;

and community events--they're everywhere.

It's what the Fourth of July used to be like in the old country--in small towns.

Only here, it really is everywhere--especially in the bigger cities.

In fact, the bigger the city, the more festivities and celebrations and events you'll find.

And then, just like small town USA on the Grand ole'Fourth--there are the flags.

Everywhere.

little flags

and

Big flags
 and

really BIG flags

and

DDoubble flaggs

and

Single flags and Ddoubble flaggs

and

Can you count how many flags?

and then

Flags on a pole

and

Flags on cars

and
Flags on trucks

and

flags on more cars

and especially--

Flags with Savta!

Then again, if you get tired of flags, you can always try this:

HAPPY 63RD ISRAEL INDEPENDENCE DAY !!
